Shift statuses
The shift lifecycle from Booked to Approved, plus No-show, Cancelled and Copied.
Last updated · 25 June 2026
Each shift carries a status that tells you where it is in its life. The status is worked out from the workers on the shift and what they have done, so it updates as the shift progresses.
The lifecycle
- Booked, created with no worker yet.
- Worker selected, a worker is chosen but the shift has not been published.
- Published, the shift has been sent to the worker and shows in their app.
- In, the worker has clocked in.
- Out, the worker has clocked out.
- Submitted, the worker has submitted their progress note (for post-service coded shifts).
- Part approved, you have reviewed some of the workers on the shift.
- Approved, you have reviewed every worker. This is the end state, ready to claim.
Other statuses
- No-show, the shift was published but nobody clocked in by the time it ended.
- Cancelled, the shift (or a participant on it) was cancelled. See Cancel a shift.
- Copied, the shift is a copy of another and has not been published yet.
Publishing and locking
Publish is the step that hands a shift to the worker, from the assignments drawer. Once a worker clocks in, or provider travel starts, the shift locks: the time, location, participants and support can no longer be changed. You can still manage assignments or cancel. The message you will see is “Details lock once a worker clocks in or travel starts.”
