Scheduling

Shift types

Direct, intensive and group support, and what changes for each.

Last updated · 25 June 2026

Every shift has a type, which sets how many workers and participants it has and how it is priced.

  • Direct support, one worker supports one participant. The everyday 1:1 shift.
  • Intensive support, more than one worker supports one participant (for example 2 to 1 or 3 to 1). Each worker is paid and billed at the full rate.
  • Group support, one or more workers support several participants at once. The rate is shared across the group, and the shift uses a single shared location rather than a participant’s home address.

The type also sets the rules when you create or assign the shift. A group shift needs every participant to have a location, and all of its participants must share the same pricing region.
